“After Earth”

After Earth Movie Poster
FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: Tonight I got to see the movie “After Earth” starring Jaden Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Karate Kid), Will Smith (Men in Black, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, Ace Ventura 2), and Zoe Kravitz (X-Men: First Class, It’s Kind of a Funny Story). After terrible events that lead to humans escaping Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. This movie follows Kitai (Jaden Smith) and his father Cypher Raige (Will Smith) as they go on a trip to spend some bonding time since Kitai’s father is always away from home. But whenever their craft gets damaged during an asteroid storm, they crash-land on the now hostile Earth leaving only Kitai and his father alive. Since Cypher’s leg is broken, it is up to Kitai to find the tail of their craft and retrieve a signaling beacon to bring help to them. It turns into a long journey of survival with many evolved creatures that have a first nature to kill humans. This is Kitai’s chance to prove to his father that he can be a soldier like him like he has always wanted to. I thought the movie was alright. I don’t get what was up with Jaden Smith’s talking in this because it sounded like he was a five-year old at times and it would get hard to understand. It also seemed like a short movie with not as many action scenes as I thought, but it did have a descent story line and I do love sci-fi movies. Overall it was good, but not as great as I thought it would be. FINAL SCORE: 75%= Juicy Popcorn
