FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: On Friday I got to watch another Marvel movie which is called “Thor: The Dark World” which stars Chris Hemsworth (Red Dawn (2012), Rush), Natalie Portman (Star Wars, Black Swan), Tom Hiddleston (War Horse, The Avengers), Anthony Hopkins (Hannibal, Red Dragon), Christopher Eccleston (The Others, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra), Jaimie Alexander (The Last Stand, Rest Stop), Kat Dennings (2 Broke Girls, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist), Stellan Skarsgard (Good Will Hunting, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)., and Stan Lee (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Iron Man). This is the sequel to “Thor” and the eighth movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Hulk, The Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man). A long time ago, this race of beings known as the Dark Elves tried to engulf the universe in darkness by using a very powerful source of energy known as the Aether. While trying to do so, they were stop by Odin’s father and his army from Asgard. They took out almost the whole race of Dark Elves and teleported the Aether somewhere else (since they can’t destroy it) so that no one can ever use the power for evil. To save the Dark Elves race, their leader Malekith takes a handful of Dark Elves and escapes so that they can still live on. Many years later Jane Foster (Portman) stumbles upon the Aether power and gets it sucked into her. When that happened Malekith and the Dark Elves were awaken, sending them to find her and extract the power so they can use it to bring darkness to the universe. Now it is up to Thor (Hemsworth) to stop the Dark Elves before it is too late. I thought the movie was good. The acting was great (props to Tom Hiddleston reprising Loki) and the special effects were awesome. I did think that Jane Foster had a way bigger part than she should have had in this movie because all I really want to watch is Thor battle different races of bad guys from the different realms. The bad guy was okay in my opinion though. It’s just this movie felt like it could have been better for being a Marvel movie(I thought the first one was better than this one). It’s funny because I have seen every movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in theaters except both Thor movies. Anyway if you are a big fan of Marvel or a big fan of Thor I recommend you to see this, but if you actually go deep into Thor’s character (like reading comics), this movie might not be all too great for you. FINAL SCORE: 76%= Juicy Popcorn
The score of this movie has been modified. It does not affect the running for the Movie of the Year for 2014 for the changes were made after the event.
