“Be Kind Rewind”

FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: Last night, I saw a movie that I haven’t seen in a long time that I enjoyed called “Be Kind Rewind” which stars Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda, Tropic Thunder), Mos Def (The Italian Job, 16 Blocks), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, The Color Purple), Mia Farrow (Rosemary’s Baby, Hannah and Her Sisters), and Melonie Diaz (Fruitvale Station, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints). When movie rental store owner Mr. Fletcher (Glover) leaves for a week to figure out how he can make more money to save the store, he leaves the store in charge of his bumbling store clerk Mike (Def). While in charge though, Mike is told to keep his crazy friend, who works at a dump, Jerry (Black) out of the store so that he doesn’t mess anything up. Jerry wants to sabotage the town’s power station though and asks Mike to help him. When Mike refuses, Jerry tries to do it on his own and gets nearly electrocuted to death. Now magnetized, Jerry walks into the store to talk to Mike and accidentally erases all of the VHS tapes because of his magnetism. To save the store, Mike and Jerry start to make homemade videos (Ghostbusters, Rush Hour 2, Driving Miss Daisy) in place of the movies Jerry erased, under the name Sweded edition, so that they could still make money. I thought the movie was good because of the acting, it was funny, and the story. I really liked the story because, since I love making my own videos, I liked the idea of people trying to make their own homemade videos off of real movies. It was really cool and all the cheesy effects they put into their own videos were great as well. The cons of this movie would have to be that it was hard to understand a bit at what Mike was saying, the ending was confusing as to what was to happen to the store, and the movie tended to drag throughout as well. Overall it was a great movie and I recommend anyone to see it! FINAL SCORE: 80%= Juicy Popcorn
