FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: Sorry for the late review, but I just got back from vacation. Anyway, Friday night I got to see the movie “Grudge Match” which stars Sylvester Stallone (Escape Plan, Rockie), Robert De Niro (Meet the Parents, Goodfellas), Kevin Hart (Ride Along, Laugh at My Pain), Alan Arkin (The Santa Clause 3, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone), Jon Bernthal (Snitch, The Wolf of Wall Street), and Kim Basinger (Batman, Charlie St. Cloud). This movie is about two famous retired boxers named Henry “Razor” Sharp (Stallone) and Billy “The Kid” McDonnen (De Niro) who once fought in an epic boxing match against each other over thirty years ago. In the present day, a promoter named Dante Slate (Hart) wants them two to act for a new video game. Sharp doesn’t want to at first because he doesn’t want to be anywhere around McDonnen, but he eventually gives in on one condition: he doesn’t see McDonnen. At the studio while Sharp is giving punching moves for the movie, McDonnen comes in and they get into a real fight. It becomes big over social media and they become somewhat famous again. Now Dante wants them both to fight again with the winner getting a lot of money. They both accept with McDonnen wanting to win to win back his title that he lost when they fought a second time long ago, and Sharp wanting to win to pay off bills. Sharp enlists his old trainer, Louis “Lightning” Conlon (Arkin) and McDonnen gets trained by his son he never knew about named B.J. (Bernthal) who was born by Sharp’s former lover, Sally (Basinger), when she cheated on him with McDonnen. I thought the movie was rather good, with the story being good, the acting be good (Stallone was actually understandable than in “Escape Plan”), it was funny, and the boxing scenes were good as well. Some of my good score probably came from the string of bad movies I’ve watched previously. Cons of this movie would be the amount of cussing, the ending was a bit cheesy, and the story stretched out a bit. Other than those the movie was good, definitely better than what most people say, and I would recommend anyone to watch it! FINAL SCORE: 81%= Juicy Popcorn
