“Heaven is for Real”

Heaven-Is-for-Real-2014-Movie-Poster

FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: Last night, my family and I sat down to watch the movie “Heaven is for Real” which stars Greg Kinnear (You’ve Got Mail, Little Miss Sunshine), Kelly Reilly (Sherlock Holmes, Flight), Thomas Haden Church (We Bought a Zoo, Spider-Man 3), Connor Corum, Lane Styles (Reasonable Doubt, Silent Night), and Margo Martindale (August: Osage County, Million Dollar Baby). The movie is based on a true story and centers around the Burpo family. Todd Burpo (Kinnear) works four jobs just to pay the bills and one of those jobs is being a pastor. One day his family goes through a crisis when his son Colton (Corum) falls ill and won’t get better after five days of being sick. It turns out that his son’s appendix has ruptured before those five days and doctors need to give him surgery fast. During that time of waiting, Todd’s wife Sonja (Reilly) calls up their friends to pray for him to get better. Eventually Colton does, which is a miracle, but something is different about him. Colton begins telling his father that he went to Heaven when he was on the operating table. Todd thinks this is impossible seeing as how his heart never stopped beating during surgery, but after Colton tells him that he saw him yelling at God in another room when he was in surgery, Todd began to get curious. The movie then goes onto Todd asking his son questions, trying to understand how to talk to his son when he can’t comprehend how he could make it up. People at the church as well as his wife start getting frustrated at Todd for talking about it and thinking that Colton is telling the truth and it becomes a bigger matter than what Colton would ever think it could be. I thought the movie was alright. The story was okay as well as the acting. I really liked the scenery of the movie with the fields and little town of where they live. I also liked the religious aspect of this movie being a movie about exploring Heaven and Christianity. Cons of this movie were that it was slow in the story and only picking up pace when Colton talked about Heaven. Other than that, the movie was okay and it is a very heart-warming family movie. FINAL SCORE: 76%= Juicy Popcorn
