MOVIE REVIEW: Yesterday I sat down to watch the movie “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers” which stars Elijah Wood (9, Wilfred), Sean Astin (The Goonies, 50 First Dates), Viggo Mortensen (The Road, A History of Violence), Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, Troy), Ian McKellen (X-Men, Flushed Away), Liv Tyler (Robot & Frank, The Incredible Hulk), Cate Blanchett (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Robin Hood), Billy Boyd (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, The Forger), Bernard Hill (Titanic, The Scorpion King), Miranda Otto (War of the Worlds (2005), What Lies Beneath), Karl Urban (Almost Human, Star Trek Into Darkness),¬†Dominic Monaghan (Lost, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Sophie & Sheba), Hugo Weaving (The Matrix, Captain America: The First Avenger), Christopher Lee (Star Wars: Episode II- Attack of the Clones, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)), and Andy Serkis (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Prestige). The movie is the second movie in “The Lord of the Rings” franchise and the sequel to “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.” It starts where it left off, with Frodo Baggins (Wood) and Samwise Gamgee (Astin) heading to the Black Gate in Mordor. They run into Gollum (Serkis) on the way who then chooses to lead them to the Black Gate. Meanwhile, Aragorn (Mortensen), Legolas (Bloom), and Gimli (Rhys-Davies) are on the trail to find Merry (Monaghan) and Pippin (Boyd) after they were taken captive in the last movie. The movie eventually goes into Saruman (Lee) forming a large army to go to war against the race of man to wipe them out for good as the first phase of war to take over Middle Earth as Sauron’s ally. It is up to Aragorn to defend his fellow men in the war so that his race can survive. I thought this movie was better than the first one with the story. I also liked the acting, the special effects, and especially the action scenes. I think my favorite part of the movie was the fighting with Gandalf (McKellen) in the beginning. The con of this movie would have to be how long it is, with this one being longer than the first one (but only by a minute). I really thought that this movie was a bit of improvement from the first one and I recommend anyone who hasn’t seen it to see it! FINAL SCORE: 89%= Juicy Popcorn
