“Transformers: Age of Extinction”

FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE REVIEW: Ah, yes another “Transformers” movie. I love the “Transformers” franchise. All the movies are good in their own way to me and I enjoy watching them because of the action scenes and CGI. Tonight I finally got to see “Transformers: Age of Extinction” which stars Mark Wahlberg (The Other Guys, Lone Survivor), Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games, The Devil Wears Prada), Kelsey Grammer (Frasier, Toy Story 2), Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender, Deck the Halls), Jack Reynor (Delivery Man, What Richard Did), Titus Welliver (Lost, The Town), Sophia Myles (Underworld, Outlander), Bingbing Li (Resident Evil: Retribution, Detective Dee: Mystery of the Phantom Flame), and T.J. Miller (Cloverfield, How to Train Your Dragon). Since the war of the third movie, the humans have come to hate any alien race because of the destruction they bring, especially the robots. To get rid of all robots for good, a CIA agent named Harold Attinger (Grammer) forms an alliance with another alien robot to hunt down all of the Autobots and kill them. The only thing that the alien robots want is Optimus Prime. So one day an inventor/mechanic in Texas named Cade Yeager (Wahlberg) finds an old truck and decides to fix it up so he can sell it for money so that he can pay off bills and get his daughter into college. Little does he know that the truck is Optimus Prime himself and once the government finds out about it, they come to his house and search the place without a warrant. Optimus breaks out and takes Cade along with his daughter and her boyfriend to stop the alien race plotting against him as well as the humans who want to get rid of him and his fellow Autobots. I thought the movie did fairly well. I expected it to be bad because of how the critics were talking about it, but it actually wasn’t that awful. I liked the story, the action scenes, and the killer CGI that was placed in this movie. I also liked the jokes put in like they usually do. The cons I can think of are a bit hefty though. Even though I liked most of the acting (Mark freaking Wahlberg), there was some acting that was bad and felt stale especially the scenes where no one is freaking out about robots attacking at all (like when Tessa’s [Peltz] boyfriend shows up to the farm nonchalant and just drives them out of madness without question). I also thought that it became slow in parts of the film, and the film goes on for almost three hours. Other things I thought were a bad decision was when they killed off the funniest character in the beginning (no spoilers) and how they threw in a bad guy during the movie while they were trying to explain the alien villain. I get how they want to set up for future films, but it is no need to confuse people of what they should be fighting. Other than those this movie was good to me, being a “Transformers” fan, and even though the score is less than the sequel in the franchise, I think that it was somewhat a tie between this one and the second one of the order in which I think they are good (Transformers 4/2, 3, and then 1 being the best). I just didn’t want to go and change the score of the second one because it will lead to a domino effect in grading for one month. So everyone should definitely check this out if you think Mark Wahlberg holding a space gun is awesome and if you like “Transformers”!!! FINAL SCORE: 75%= Juicy Popcorn
