May Movie Rankings:
And I thought that last month had the most reviews! This month I have reviewed 18 movies, making it the biggest reviewing month in my site’s history. With those reviews, I have 3 Burnt Popcorn movies and 15 Juicy Popcorn movies. So, read on and enjoy this May 2015 movie rankings!:
#15- “Dracula: Untold”
65%= Burnt Popcorn
Pros: Good origin story, great acting, and amazing special effects.
Cons: The plot can get uninteresting at times, the action scenes can be shaky and fast, and the ending wasn’t the best.
#14- “The Cobbler”
70%= Burnt Popcorn
Pros: Fantastic beginning, deep (in the beginning), great acting, interesting story, cool special effects, some very good scenes, and can be funny.
Cons: Once it got to the middle the story changed its genre from drama to comedy and it became outrageously silly.
#13- “Taken 2”
72%= Burnt Popcorn
Pros: Good premise, great acting, entertaining, and great action scenes.
Cons: Not climatic, felt short, the villain became more of a wimp towards the ending, and wasn’t much of a challenge for Bryan Mills.
#12- “X-Men: The Last Stand”
73%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: The acting was good, it had fun new and old characters, it had awesome battle scenes, great special effects and okay story.
Cons: There were scenes that were silly and made no sense, and there were just too many deaths for its own good.
#12- “The Time Traveler’s Wife”
73%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: The plot was okay and different, the acting was solid, and time traveling is always interesting.
Cons: The beginning was really blunt, leading to a rough first half of the movie.
74%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: The plot was okay, the acting was great, and it was different.
Cons: Some parts didn’t seem necessary and half of this movie felt like it was missing something.
#10- “Seventh Son”
75%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: The main story arc is interesting, the acting is really good, Jeff Bridges steals every scene that he is in, fantastic action scenes, a good take on fantasy, and the chemistry of characters is done well.
Cons: Most of them surround the character of Mother Malkin where her scenes were not interesting, and her build up was for nothing.
#9- “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”
76%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Better than I expected, a good origin story, great acting, best portrayal of Sabretooth, awesome action scenes, and good special effects.
Cons: It lost traction towards the middle and Deadpool wasn’t written how he should’ve been.
80%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Spectacular acting, great characters, deep story, and very realistic.
Cons: It can drag in some areas and it can give me a very creepy vibe that makes me feel gross.
#7- “I Am Number Four”
81%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Has a somewhat original plot, good acting, amazing special effects, entertaining, and really good action scenes.
Cons: Can get unrealistic (in terms of what can be portrayed as real) and the character of Number 6 is useless for almost the whole movie.
#7- “Eagle Eye”
81%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Interesting, great acting, awesome action scenes, good special effects, and thrilling story.
Cons: Some things didn’t make sense (especially towards the ending) and the first car chase can be confusing to watch.
#6- “X-Men: First Class”
83%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Fantastic acting, good introduction of characters, fun story, great action sequences, Magneto is portrayed and written much better, and amazing special effects.
Cons: The portrayal of Beast isn’t favored, can be Hollywoodish, and there are quite a bit of lowlights.
#5- “Run All Night”
84%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Awesome storyline, great actors involved, and killer action scenes.
Cons: The fast-paced cinematography can get confusing, the ending could’ve been executed better, and the character of Andrew Price was written horribly.
85%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Establishes a good tone of seriousness, really good story, great dialogue, good special effects for the year, good characters, great action scenes, and good acting.
Cons: Some parts are really cheesy.
#3- “X2: X-Men United”
87%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Entertaining, better than the first movie, awesome action scenes, great special effects, great characters, good acting, and fun story.
Cons: It can drag in some spots and some scenes make no sense (mainly the ending).
#2- “Taken” (2008)
91%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Thrilling, great acting, awesome story, Liam Neeson is fantastic, mostly realistic, gritty setting, and great action scenes.
Cons: Having the cops not go after Bryan Mills felt unrealistic and there was an action scene towards the end that was tricky to the eyes.
#1- “Whiplash” (2014)
92%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Fantastic acting, thrilling story, great lesson, cool setting, and intense.
Cons: The ending was a bit past its climax and the cussing needed to be turned back a couple notches.
#1- “Avengers: Age of Ultron”
92%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Great character chemistry, amazing action, awesome special effects, great story, hilarious, fun, best Stan Lee cameo, good for a sequel, and great acting.
Cons: Ultron’s growing power felt rushed, most of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver’s scenes didn’t make them important, and some scenes didn’t feel needed to the main storyline (mainly Thor seeking what his dream meant).
That was challenging and long to write up, but it was worth it! As you see, we have another tie in a movie rankings, with “Whiplash” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” taking May 2015’s Movie of the Month! It will be going up against “The Truman Show”, “Rocky”, “It’s Kind of a Funny Story”, and “Rocky Balboa” in January 2016 to see which movie will become 2015’s Movie of the Year!!! Come back soon for the first review of June.
