January Movie Rankings

2019 JANUARY MOVIE RANKINGS:

Not much went down in January besides the Juicy Awards. That kind of preoccupied me in terms of posts, as I really only reviewed the Rambo flicks, minus an analysis of “Into the Spider-Verse.” It’s a new year, and another trek towards the newest Movie of the Year winner is underway with January wrapped. Let’s see who won the month.

#5- “Rambo: First Blood Part II”
68%= Burnt Popcorn
Pros: Some solid action squences, entertaining, and has some good moments.
Cons: The story can get repetitive and boring, with Rambo pretty much going into a camp, walking out, and going back in several times.

#4- “Rambo III”
69%= Burnt Popcorn
Pros: Puts hair on your chest to watch, fun action, great location, and has some cool moments.
Cons: It’s story and action sequences can be downright absurd (especially the ending battle).

#3- “Rambo”
74%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Gruesome action, intense sequences, good heart behind it, and an overall entertaining flick.
Cons: There could’ve been better development with the bad guys, there’s not much depth to the story, and most of the performances could’ve been better.

#2- “First Blood”
89%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Emotional theme, great ending, solid acting, and tense action sequences and story.
Cons: The story doesn’t really hit its stride until the third act. Building up to that point, the story can get messy.

#1- “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”
95%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Terrific animation, awesome soundtrack, great voice acting, original story, unique design, and highly entertaining.
Cons: There are a few nitpicks, mainly regarding the story arc with Miles’ school and how him pretty much dropping out was never shed light on.

There you have it! “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” will be competing for Movie of the Year alongside the rest of the nominees to be announced throughout 2019!
