March Movie Rankings

2020 MARCH MOVIE RANKINGS:

Now we’re cooking with gas. Guess this quarantine isn’t so bad after all. Clearly, I’m able to review more because of it… Yeah, this pandemic better be over soon. Things are getting a bit stir crazy at the ole homestead. But we’ll always have film to keep us sane. This month offered quite a few good titles to analyze. Let’s see who won out.

#5- “The Banker” (2020)
72%= Burnt Popcorn
Pros: Interesting true story, nice period piece, and solid acting.
Cons: The character focus shifted towards the end, losing my attachment in the process. Overall, the characters didn’t have much to them to keep me completely invested.

#4- “First Reformed”
73%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Thought-provoking story, engaging experience, gripping performances, and great cinematography.
Cons: While the story was thought-provoking, the theme/moral was certainly troubling. I’m not sure how I feel about it. As well as the ending, which felt abrupt.

#3- “Jumanji: The Next Level”
75%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Hilarious, entertaining sequel, fun acting/chemistry, Danny DeVito and Danny Glover are in this (to an extent), and everything has been upped another “level.”
Cons: There wasn’t too much point dipping back into this wheelhouse (besides money), as the story arcs of our main characters felt weak. Their story ended at the first film.

#2- “Onward”
83%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Fantastic animation, funny, solid voice acting, and holds some memorable moments.
Cons: The story that is set up in the beginning becomes a different one by the end, which felt like I was robbed of the film’s true closure.

#1- “Uncut Gems”
90%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Visceral cinematography, raw performances, great score, and an overall thrill ride.
Cons: Personal preference issues concerning content.

Juicy Hall of Fame Inductee“The King’s Speech”
96%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Fun story, beautiful cinematography, great performances, and a lovely experience.
Cons: It’s 4% off of 100%. What a shame (I know, there’s no cons here, but it just isn’t a perfect feature).

Who would’ve thunk an Adam Sandler picture would claim top spot? “Uncut Gems” will be joining “1917,” “Jojo Rabbit,” “Parasite,” and the other monthly winners to decide who will be the next Movie of the Year.
