January Movie Rankings

2021 JANUARY MOVIE RANKINGS:

Coming at yah late with these movie rankings. Many apologies. Per usual. This schtick can only continue for so long. Of course, the Juicy Awards took up most of my time regarding this website, rendering any film watching non-existent (for the most part). In my prep for the awards, I generally re-watch specific flicks, taking away any free time I would have to analyze new features. But, the month is over, as are the Awards; here’s to a more bountiful February (hopefully).

#4- “I Used to Go Here”
58%= Burnt Popcorn
Pros: Solid acting, unpredictable(?), and has a promising idea.
Cons: Familiar concept/abysmal execution, there does not seem to be a clear direction with both story and character, there aren’t really any stakes, and most of the jokes fall flat.

#3- “When We First Met” (2018)
78%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Funny, entertaining performances, a fun take on the time-traveling genre, and an all-around enjoyable viewing experience.
Cons: The third act seems to wear within the story structure, and there isn’t much to take away that’s fresh (it’s a fairly simplistic feature).

#2- “Twins” (1988)
87%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Hilarious, fantastic chemistry between leads (Arnold and Danny), highly entertaining, and a pretty original concept.
Cons: The plot is pretty idiotic (as well as certain moments) and coincidental.

#1- “When Harry Met Sally…”
95%= Juicy Popcorn
Pros: Fantastic writing, terrific leading chemistry (Crystal and Ryan are amazing), engaging story/characters, funny, great music, and a well-made feature in the rom-com genre.
Cons: I don’t pride in specific elements of relationships that this feature places great importance on (but c’est la vie).

There you have it folks. Our first Movie of the Month winner, “When Harry Met Sally…,” has been declared, and will face the other eleven (or so) monthly winners as they are announced, to decide what film will become the next Movie of the Year.
